About the ISGC

The International Stroke Genomics Consortium (ISGC) was created in April 2007 by a group of 16 investigators from Europe and North America interested in global stroke genetics research. Since then, the ISGC has become an international, multidisciplinary network of more than 200 stroke genetics investigators, representing over 38 countries in 6 continents. We are a global consortium of established and emerging leaders in stroke genetics and genomics, including clinicians and scientists from diverse backgrounds interested in identification of genetic variants and the genes associated with stroke risk, stroke outcome and related disorders. We hope that this will lead to improved stroke treatments, prevention and outcomes.

Our Vision

We seek to understand genomic influences on stroke risk, stroke outcome, and related disorders and to support clinical implementation of those results, to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities touched by stroke.

Our Mission

To fulfill our vision we aim:

  • to foster international networks of researchers and clinicians committed to advancing the field of cerebrovascular disease and stroke genetics.
  • to share and facilitate promising findings via member collaborations and the sharing of ideas, techniques, and data.
  • to facilitate training and education of next generation researchers via workshops and conferences on key methods and emerging directions.
  • to translate our advances into better care for people at risk of or living with stroke throughout the world.

Diversity statement

As ISGC members, we strongly value diversity. We endeavour to include researchers of every age, culture, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, political beliefs, profession, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. We commit to respectful scientific debate with direct, constructive, and positive discussion, mindful of our commitment to people affected by stroke around the world.
