The Scientific Committee meets quarterly and is comprised of the members of the ISGC Steering Committee, immediate past, current, and future hosts for the ISGC twice annual Workshops, and the leaders of each of the ISGC Working Groups and Committees.

The Scientific Committee has three primary responsibilities: 1) facilitate the planning of each of the ISGC Workshops and identify venues for future workshops, 2) discuss and develop new scientific initiatives (grants, conference session proposals (e.g. ESOC, ASHG, ISC, etc.), opportunities to liaise with other consortia/ scientific groups (e.g. CHARGE, AF-Gen, etc.), and 3) obtain updates from active projects (e.g. Tera-Stroke) and status reports from Working Groups. The Scientific Committee also plays an important role in implementing the ISGC Strategic Plan adopted in the spring of 2024 and identifying trends, themes, and opportunities in the field of Stroke Genomic Research and Translation.

The meetings alternate time to allow participation by all members of the global community (times favorable to Europe/Africa, Asia/Australia, and the Americas). Meetings are held by teleconference and hosted by the Chair of the ISGC.
