The Biological Sex Differences Working Group
WG purpose and aims
The working group aims to investigate genetic differences between the sexes in relation to stroke and associated pathologies. Our objectives include understanding how genetic variations, particularly on the X and Y chromosomes, contribute to disease susceptibility and outcomes in males and females. We are also focused on discussing methods for analyzing sex chromosomes in genomic studies to better understand the biological mechanisms underlying sex-specific differences in stroke.
Ultimately, our goal is to enhance personalized approaches to stroke prevention and treatment based on sex-specific genetic insights.
What does the WG do?
The WG aims to be a space for researchers interested in how sex differences may influence disease risk and outcomes. We plan to facilitate discussions on projects with a sex-aware approach within the ISGC, as well as provide a platform for invited expert speakers to share key insights on relevant analyses with the group.
Past successes/output
The first study from the group regarding sex-aware approach was recently published (PMID: 39315829).
