Uxue Lazcano (PhD candidate)

Uxue graduated in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in July 2017 from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). During her studies she discovered the world of bioinformatics and was fascinated by it, which is why she decided to study a MSc in Bioinformatics at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB).

When she finished the master she met Dr.Jimenez and she joined his team of Neurovascular research as a bioinformatics technician. During her first year as a researcher she developed several clinical-genetic models using data from ischemic stroke patients and machine learning techniques. At the same time she studied a postgraduate course in Data Science at the mathematics faculty of the University of Barcelona.

After an intense year full of new experiences, she had the opportunity to start her thesis in this same group under the direction of Dr. Jimenez in collaboration with Dr. Gonzalez from ISGlobal, who as a statistician gives the technical support to be able to develop a thesis that mixes the most clinical part with a more technical vision to be able to carry out a complete PhD.
